IS SAND STILL NEEDED? KOVALSKA PLANS TO SWITCH TO AN ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL

Effective use of production waste at ballast quarries, processing of granite waste into artificial sand and conservation of natural resources is an integral practice of European industry.

Kovalska ICG belongs exactly to those manufacturers that work using modern technologies, constantly improving quality and expanding the range of products.

At its quarries, Kovalska mastered the technology of processing granite and production waste into granite sand with a fraction of 0.63-2 mm.

The main advantage of this sand in comparison with the river sand is high adhesion (cohesion) of grains. Due to this property, we can achieve a significant increase in the strength of concrete, paving slabs, structural concrete, curbs, building blocks and road pavement.

We tested various types of concrete, some of which were made using granite sand, and some — using river sand. In the first case, the results showed a significant increase in the quality characteristics of products in terms of strength, water permeability and frost resistance. This means that we are on the right track. Moreover, thanks to our own rolling stock of railway cars, we can independently and promptly deliver materials to any of our enterprises,” Serhii Goncharenko, Head of Procurement and Contract Policy Department of Kovalska ICG, comments.

He also added that artificial granite sand, made by enriching the crushing waste, allows making the production more cost-effective. And this is a serious reason to increase the volume of production of this material in the future.
